Florida and the Gulf Coast incorporate the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas all linked by the Gulf of Mexico. It connects with the Atlantic Ocean via the Florida Straits between the U.S. and Cuba, and with the Caribbean Sea via the Yucatan Channel between Mexico and Cuba. Florida is known as the Sunshine State and consists of the Panhandle which includes the beaches of Destin, Fort Walton, and Panama City Beach, extending along the northern Gulf of Mexico and the large Peninsula with the Atlantic Ocean as its eastern border and the Gulf of Mexico as its western border. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama and on the west, at the end of the panhandle, by Alabama and is near the countries of the Caribbean, particularly the Bahamas and Cuba.
